Siding

Nothing will impact the appearance of your home more dramatically than the exterior siding you choose. A building's exterior walls are its most evident and defining features, and you'll want them to make a great first impression. As you shop for exterior siding, look for a siding material that suits the style of your house and also fits your lifestyle.

Wood

Traditionally, the most popular siding material in North America has been solid wood siding. Wood siding is available in boards (both horizontal and vertical) or shingles. Shingles offer a rustic look but are typically higher in price. Many of these products are made from mature cedar, redwood and other species that are resistant to water and insects.

Rain Screen Wood Siding

FSC Garupa sidingThe Climate-Shield [Rain Screen Wood Siding] System provides architects and builders with the flexibility to install rain screen siding horizontally, vertically, or even diagonally. No furring strips are needed because the [rain screen] system’s clips provide the proper spacing off the side wall and can be screwed directly into suitable exterior sheathing. Ipe siding, Cumaru siding, Garapa siding and Machiche siding are all available FSC certified for your rain screen siding project. With its patented rain screen clip design, there is nothing like the Climate-Shield rain screen siding system available on the market today.
With the abundance of glass, metal and concrete structures being utilized to design commercial structures, architects and designers are turning toward these long lasting sustainable hardwoods for a rain screen siding material to soften the appearance of their designs and provide a natural element for a harmonious balance.

Maintenance

Whereas wood siding does offer a classically traditional appearance to your home, because of its porous, organic nature, wood has a tendency to absorb and expel water, which may cause deterioration over time. While initially attractive, this siding material requires frequent maintenance. Keep in mind, however, that all siding requires yearly maintenance, and the amount of maintenance depends on the installation methods used.
